Qatar Flies Directly to Edinburgh

In May, Qatar Airways will take Doha directly to Edinburgh five days a week: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The carrier will fly a B787 Dreamliner with 22 business seats and 232 economy seats.

New flights QR 027 leaves Doha at 8am and lands in Edinburgh at 1:15pm, while the return departs Edinburgh at 2:45pm and reach Doha at 11:40pm.

Currently, the carrier operates five daily flights to London and ten daily flights to Manchester. Edinburgh will be Qatar’s third UK destination.

“This is very important news, not just for Edinburgh but Scotland as a whole. It opens up a new audience to the city – one that’s key for both tourism and business” said John Donnelly, chief executive of Marketing Edinburgh.

He adds, “Doha is one of the Middle East’s most progressive, wealthiest cities and there’s a great deal of untapped potential that we can realize with this route. We look forward to working with Edinburgh Airport and Qatar Airways.

This will be the first scheduled B787 to service a Scottish airport. In summer of 2013, charter carrier Thomson Airways flew a Dreamliner from Glasgow to Cancun and Orlando.

US Airways announced a daily service from Philadelphia to Edinburgh to begin next summer.
